2014 Disaster Management Forum

2014 Disaster Management Forum
November 18 - 20, 2014
Holiday Inn Harbourview in Dartmouth, NS
Thank you for Attending the 8th Annual
Disaster Management
Forum

Our program and topics truly reflect the theme of Frequency and Complexity, and how recent events are shaping how we do business going forward. At last year’s Forum, we could only examine briefly two major disasters because they’d occurred just a short time earlier: the massive flood in Calgary and across southern Alberta and terrible derailment at Lac-Mégantic, Québec. We’re now ready for a more in-depth look at both, including recovery work that continues, and I’m delighted by the calibre of our presenters. Brace yourselves for a nasty forecast from Canada’s senior climatologist – severe, violent weather is trending, and not just on Twitter. Speaking of social media, we are honored that our Forum takes place in tandem with an important international Digital Volunteer-Supported Recovery Operation Experiment. Tapping into such virtual resources is just one example of innovation in Emergency Management, which itself is another key topic. Our panel presentations on Hazardous Materials Response, Critical Infrastructure, and preparedness in indigenous communities all relate directly to other sessions. And everyone enjoys our open space discussions where all can contribute. It’s going to be an exciting, informative three days, and I look forward to seeing you!
